Healthy habits are so important to conquering an amazing 2022.  Many articles focus on getting physically fit, but there are so many ways to help you feel better and stronger in 2022.

Join a Book Club

Reading can be such a relaxing past time and help you disconnect from the world for a little while.  Let a book take you to far off lands, historical events, or somewhere over the rainbow.  But don’t stop there!  Find some friends who also enjoy reading and start a book club.  It’s the perfect excuse to get together with friends to talk about the book, share life stories, and connect with others.  If you don’t have a group interested in a book club, join one online!  Many book clubs are now offered virtually and even mail you the books.  Create a new healthy habit this year of giving yourself time to read some good books and share your thoughts with friends in a book club.

Get Crafty!

There is something magical about creating a decoration for your home, knitting a blanket, or fashioning a piece of jewelry.  You can always look at that piece and say, “I made that!”  Crafting is therapeutic.  It takes you away from your worries for a little while, gets your hands busy, and can give you a sense of accomplishment.   Whether you have a stack of unfinished crafts at home to choose from or need a little help from a DIY expert, make a habit this year to get crafty!

“One of my favorite things to hear in the studio is how relaxed everyone feels.  They tell me that they can shut off the real world for 3 hours and just enjoy making a piece of art.  One guest took it further and said his endorphins were multiplying!  Love that!” Megan Welch, The Rustic Brush – a DIY workshop where instructors help you create a wooden project from scratch.

Join a Wine Club

A glass of wine at the end of a hard day can be a habit many of us could wrap our heads around!  Healthline documents that an occasional glass of wine offers many benefits. “Some research suggests that drinking wine in moderation provides antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits that may improve your gut bacteria and boost your heart health, mental health, and longevity. However, most research has focused on red wine.”

For many of us, the glass of wine is nice but it is the act of sitting down and relaxing that is a healthy habit that needs forming.  Joining friends for a glass of wine is even better!  Get social, get silly, and relax.  Consider joining a wine of the month club or having a wine delivered to your home.  Try some new flavors and see where you taste buds take you.

Take a Trip

Quit making excuses and get out of town.  Form a habit of exploring new areas, new cultures, and new cuisines.  We don’t have to travel far to experience a wide range of opportunities right here in your own state and region.  For Texans, it might mean a trip to the hill country for beer and wine tasting, to San Antonio for some authentic Mexican food, or Houston for some world class barbeque.  Louisiana has so much to offer in culture from Mardi Gras, to alligator tours, Bourbon Street, and some of the most delicious Cajun food you have ever eaten.  What is popular in your area and when was the last time you explored your own backyard?
